Bottle closures

Historically, “pulling cork” is iconic to the wine experience. “Pulling plastic” and “twisting screw cap”, not so much. Closures open up a wine world quandary.

Two problems.

First, while cork almost is an ideal closure, it has a flaw—contamination with TCA, a chemical compound that gives wine a musky odor and affects taste. TCA can have little impact, but—depending on the concentration—it can make wine undrinkable. The cork industry has addressed the TCA issue, but not completely solved it.
