This is probably overthinking it, but according to the statistics in the article, the average value of a bottle of wine is about $1.79. I've had some fairly bad wine, and some that was grossly overpriced, but that seems a little light to me.

I think the number is the price of the juice/wine, not the price of a bottle of wine. But, I get your point and wondered the same thing when getting the stats from a reliable source. It reinforces the reality that a bottle of wine price includes much more—winery costs, machinery, employees, labels, bottles, transportation, multiple middle/triple men, advertising, profit margins and on and on. But that is reality for almost any product you walk into a store and expect immediate availability.
