Great piece of humor today and a good article. Part of the pricing issue is, I suspect, the influx of venture capital and venture capitalists (often retired) into the industry. These folks are accustomed to paying and getting top dollar for unproven or predicted value and are also well versed in the economics of that game. I'd be surprised to find out that Opus One, to take an example, ever got seriously discounted.
Wines that always sell out will never be discounted, so very likely Opus One is more than safe. Less iconic but no less expensive wines are the ones at risk.
